Do you ever look at your students and start smiling? Not because
they did something amazing, just smiling because that’s who God blessed you
with. Being a teacher is not just a job, it is also the passion of inspiring
other people. Many would ask, “Why did you choose that job?” or “There are a lot more high paying jobs than
being a teacher, why didn’t you grab them instead?“ My answer is simple, I am
happy and contented for where and what I am now. As I said, being a teacher is not just a job,
it is a passion to inspire other people with dedication. We don’t just use our
minds in teaching our lessons, but we always use our hearts.

It’s
been 10 years since I became a teacher, but I didn’t notice it because I’m just
enjoying and having fun with the different types of people I met every day. Being
a teacher is not my first dream when I was a child, it is to be a civil
engineer. But due to lack of money, my parents didn’t agree because they cannot
afford to sustain the expenses in that course so I decided to enter the field
of teaching instead. I chose that field because I want to inspire and touch
lives of my students. And I am really thanking our Lord for bringing me in the
right path.
My family,
my dreams, my students and my learnings as a church servant are my inspirations
to teach. I believed that the only way to do great work is to love what you are
doing because nothing comes easy. The more you work hard for it, the more you
will appreciate it. That’s why I really worked hard for this profession that I am
already one of those people who make other professions possible.
As I always
tell to my students, “you cannot give what you do not have”. As a teacher I always
dedicate myself to everyone. Because being a teacher is not just a profession
or a responsibility, it is also a sacrifice that you are willing to consume
yourself just to light the way and path of others.
Teaching
is the greatest act of optimism because even the world just see you as a
teacher, your students see you as their great hero. There are a lot of conflicts
once you become a teacher. You want to relax but you can’t because you still
have paper works to do, you still have lesson plans to make, and you still have
deadlines to meet.
I chose
to teach in a private institution because I think, it is where I fit and it is
where God put and destined me. Even teaching in a public institutions have the
opportunity to earn a higher salary. But I believed that it is not only about
the salary, it is about of what you have shared. I am not in it for the income but rather I am in it for the
outcomes.
The
reason why I am still in this path is that, when I see my former students
giving thanks for what have they accomplished because of the influences and
experiences that I have shared and done to their lives. I may not remember all
of their names, but I will never forget how they made me feel. It is such an
honor to see your students to success in life and you are one of the reasons
behind. Because a great teacher takes a hand, opens a mind and touches a heart.
There’s
a point in my life that I almost gave up due to very laborious tasks. But I kept
in mind that I live for a strong purpose so there’s no reason to quit. I know that
there will be obstacles, there will be doubters, there will be mistakes, but
with hard work and determination to continue teaching, there will be success.

I admire
those people who are always willing to help and cheer me up when I’m on my
weakest point. Specially, to my students who never stop believing in me and in
my abilities. They do not just learn from me but I also learn from them. It really
makes me sad when the time comes that another school year has ended. It is like
breaking my heart into million pieces because even we just know each other for
a short period of time, we already treated each other as a family, and I am their father.
As a father, you will do everything and anything for your children, and that’s
what I did. I gave my best, I gave everything and I did anything for their
sake. So often you will find that the students you are trying to inspire are the
ones end up inspiring you. I am Mr. Jayson Perez Latube, a proud teacher for
ten years and still counting saying that, “No one can change a person but
someone can be the reason for a person to change.”
